PSP - Reflections on my study path
1. MY COMPETENCES AND VOCATIONAL TEACHERHOOD
-
What are the starting points in my vocational teacherhood? -Reflect on your previous strengths and your previous competences.

I have been working as teacher some years already but without pedacogical education. I think that my implementation competence has developed well during my years as teacher. However I should focus more on other parts of pedacogical competence and in this way also get new aspects and strengths for implementation. My experience is that I am good in interacting and communicating with studens but again with not so much with theoretical approach. I am very eager to learn more about special education and ICT technology.
Competence in values integration:
I find values very important in education and in teacher´s role. I have gained good experience from this part during my years as teacher but my knowledge and skills are not so systematic.
As this part of the teacherhood is very important, I am very interested in getting to know and learn more about this more.
Competences in world of work:
As I have experience both from school and from business life I think I have good basic knowledge from this field. Trying to be as close as possible both to my vocational students but also to working life has always been very important for me and already at very beginning in my teacher work. I have been responsible teacher for training and therefore I have developed many connections to the real world of work. I also find it very important for the students to get the good touch from real world during their education. I have also had courses combined with business, entrepreneurship and marketing where I also focused on connections with real companies.
Working community competence:
My experience both from school and business life have created a great basis for this field. As a social and open-minded person I think it is easy for me to manage this kind of aspects very well.
However I should learn more about i.e. the laws and guidelines especially for education and teaching in this field.
Global competence:
I have worked as international coordinator in vocational school and therefore I have very good experience about internationalisation in teaching. I was responsible for the
stratecig planning but I was also very active in implementation in several projects. I am used to work with international training, international school projects (several with different implemantion), teacher exchange (I have planned this for teachers but also been myself in Holland). I also created and worked with Leonardo and Comenius projects. The experience from all this has been very interesting and I have always been very keen on these kind of projects combined with the education. But again I don´t have so much theoretical knowledge about this and I´m very happy to learn more from theoretical frameworks as well.
Competence in research, development and innovation:
I have not so much experience from this concerning my own working life or my work as teacher. However I have been tutor teacher for several students with their final paper (vocational level).
Substance competence
I have been working as teacher of marketing and I started directly after graduating from the University. I was very happy to start with the new job but quite soon I recognized that I need also more real work experience from my own field. If you start to teach directly after school I think it´s very important as vocational teacher to know own limits in this field. If you don´t have so much work experience you can´t be a professional in the same way with those with lot of work experience. But it´s not only a bad thing. You can be creative and you can use other professionals in your lessons and this way give the students the best learning experience from work as well.
Finally I found the work experience and substance competence as vocational teacher so important that I decided to leave the school and get some experience from business. And dreaming about coming back to school some day with my new experience from business.

How do I want to develop as a vocational teacher? What motivates me?
I´m very happy to be a teacher student now. I think that vocational
education in Finland is very high quality education and I like a lot the idea
of getting students involved both in theoretical frameworks but above all in
practical issues and tasks in their education. I would like to be a very
inspiring teacher who is able to teach students with modern pedagogical tools
and techniques. I want to learn more about different teaching styles but also a
lot from learner´s point of view. This means that I want to learn more about
different learner styles, pedagogical frameworks and about things that influence
learning in general.
I want to see satisfied and happy students who are ready and curious about
facing the challenges of today´s working life. In general it´s students that
motivates me most in my teacherhood and I like to be better teacher because of
my great students.
2. FAMILIRIAZING MYSELF WITH THE STUDIES AND PLANNING AHEAD
Read the study plan of the School of Vocational Teacher Education and create yourself the learning outcomes and a study plan.
-
What studies support and nurture the development of your core competences?
I think that VOC (both 1 and 2) studies will be very important for me as there will be many very interesting themes which can be seen both from theoretical but also from very practical point of view. In this way I can get a great framework for my teaching but I can also test and discuss about those themes in practice. Also it´s interesting to get to know different theories from educational sciences. I hope that we also have the possibility to think about these theoretical approaches from very practical point of view.
I also like a lot the idea of doing the teaching practice after many
interesting courses. I´m very eager to see how my own teacher identity has
changed and I´m very interested in testing new skills and knowledge in practice.
I also find it very interesting to get feedback from my supervisor teacher
during the teacher training.
-
How do you schedule your studies?
- Consider the possibilities teaching practise in your own field of work. In which vocational institute or polytechnic or other institute can I carry out my teacher practise? What core contents shall I concentrate on? Which target audience shall be my students? Or shall I go abroad for Teaching Practise?
Right now I have several possibilities in my mind when it comes to my
teaching practice. I was planning to do it abroad but because of the birth of
my next child it seems to be a bit challenging. But I have not forgotten this
idea at all.. One possibility is to do it at University of Applied Sciences in
Oulu. I have not taught in English so much and I think that will also be a
great and interesting experience. Even if I´m very interested in going abroad I
think that also changing the language in Finland can be a great experience. I
hope that in my group there will be exchange students as well.
3 MY FUTURE AS A VOCATIONAL TEACHER
Use at least three sentences to describe how you see yourself as a vocational teacher in the future.
I want to be an inspiring teacher who is able to understand different learners, learning environments and learning processes. I also want to be an encouraging teacher who wants to help the students to have success in their working life and in life in general. I also want to be a nice colleague as a vocational teacher and I´m waiting for interesting cooperation and discussions with different kinds of teachers from different fields.
